More information on this doorbell
Bulldog Welcome Doorbell for the Front Door
A wall-mounted bell for the front door, sculpted as the breed's head in aged bronze with a bell hung from a short chain underneath. Nothing to wire, nothing to charge, nothing to pair. A visitor takes the chain, pulls, and it rings. It reads as a decor piece and works as a real bell. The rest of the range sits under dog decor for home.
What It Is Made Of
Polyresin and metal, finished in antique bronze. The sculpt is cast polyresin, which carries the muzzle and jowl detail; the bell and chain are metal. It is not cast iron, not solid brass, and not a wired or electric chime, three things the generic listings in this category blur together. Wipe it with a dry cloth and keep solvents off the finish. Same build in the Chihuahua Welcome Bell and the Husky Welcome Bell.
Angry or Classic
Angry
Teeth showing, brow down. It reads as a warning at the gate and as a joke to anyone who knows the breed.
Classic
Mouth closed, level stare. The easier one for a shared entry or a hallway.
Both are the same bulldog welcome doorbell in the same polyresin and the same bronze finish; only the face changes. Both sit in the breed-led range that also holds sculptures, lamps and sconces: dog lover gifts by breed.
Where It Hangs, and How to Fix It
Our supplier rates it weatherproof for indoor and outdoor use, so a porch, a gate post or an entry hall all work. It hangs flat to the wall. Hardware is not listed as included, so plan on supplying your own fixing, and on brick fix a wood backer board first and screw into that. For the same breed without a bell, see the Bulldog Gatekeeper Wall Sconce.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it actually ring, or is it just decoration?
It is a real bell, rung by hand. There is no wiring, no battery and no motion sensor. A visitor takes the chain and pulls, and it sounds. So it both works and decorates, but it will not replace a wired chime you press from outside.
Is this the kind of bell my dog rings to go outside?
No. Those are potty-training bells, leather straps of jingle bells hung on the door handle at nose height for the dog to nudge. This one mounts on the wall beside the door, is rung by the person arriving, and is a decor piece rather than a training tool.
What is the bulldog welcome doorbell made of, and is it cast iron?
It is polyresin and metal with an antique bronze finish, not cast iron. The sculpted head is cast polyresin; the bell and chain are metal. It is also not solid brass. The plain black bells that dominate this category really are iron, which is why we say resin plainly.
Can it stay outside in the rain?
Our supplier rates it weatherproof for indoor and outdoor use, and that is the claim we will make. A covered porch, a gate post or a fence all suit it. We would still keep it out of standing water and direct spray, because the bronze is a finish, not the base material.
What is the difference between the Angry and Classic styles?
The face. Angry is teeth-bared with the brow down; Classic keeps the mouth shut and the stare level. Same polyresin build, same bronze finish, same bell and chain, same price. You are choosing the expression that goes on your door, nothing else about the piece changes.
How do you hang it, and what if the wall is brick?
It hangs flat against the wall, and we do not list hardware in the box, so plan on supplying your own screw or hook. On brick, fixing a wood backer board to the wall and screwing into that is easier than drilling the brick itself. We have not measured the fixing on the back of the sculpt yet, so check it before you buy hardware.
Bell or door knocker, which should go on the door?
Either works with no power and no wiring. A knocker is struck by the visitor's hand; a bell is pulled and carries further into a house. Neither replaces an electric chime with a button outside, so most people run one alongside the doorbell they already have.
