More information on this charm
Two lines of eight characters, on a chain you own
This is an engraved dog charm and nothing more than that: two engraved lines of eight characters each, on a paw, a heart or a circle, in a high shine gold tone or silver tone finish, with a loop at the top so it clips onto a chain you already own. No chain comes with it. It is not a collar tag and it is not something the dog wears. It hangs beside a pendant you already have, or beside one of ours under dog lover gifts by breed.
What fits on eight characters, and what does not
Coco, Bella, Milo, Luna, Peanut, Biscuit and Waffles all fit on one line. So do dates written 04.12.19, and short lines like GOOD BOY or MY GIRL. Bartholomew, Clementine and Marshmallow do not. Two lines of eight is more than most of this search offers, since one page-one seller fits seven letters on a single bone and another allows twelve on one charm, and it is still a limit. Count it before you order, because it is the one part of this that cannot be changed afterwards.
It is text cut into metal, not a photo of your dog
Half of what ranks on this term engraves a picture: a portrait traced from a photo, a paw print scanned from an ink or clay impression, a face laser etched onto a disc. Nothing is uploaded here. You type two short lines and they are cut into the front of the charm as text. That is a smaller promise than a portrait, and it is one that comes back the way you typed it. The pendants it hangs beside are under our pet jewelry.
The tags this gets confused with
Search for a charm with a dog's name on it and a good half of what comes back is hardware: ID tags that hang off a collar, keyrings, stamped discs with a phone number on the back. Those are made for the dog, and they cost what hardware costs. This one is made for the person wearing the chain, at $40, in a high shine gold or silver finish. If you need an ID tag, a pet supply shop sells a better one for less.
What it is finished in
High shine gold tone or silver tone, in a paw, a heart or a circle. The rest of the catalogue sits under our jewelry.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many characters can I engrave?
Two lines, eight characters each. Coco, Bella, Milo, Luna, Peanut, Biscuit and Waffles fit, as do dates written 04.12.19. Bartholomew and Clementine do not. It is worth counting before you order, because the limit cannot be stretched at the engraver once an order is placed.
Does it come with a chain?
No. It is an add-on rather than a necklace. It goes onto a chain you already own or onto one of our breed pendants, which is how it is meant to be worn, with the face and the name on the same chain. Buy it expecting a charm, not a finished necklace.
Is this a collar tag for my dog to wear?
No. It is jewelry for the person, not hardware for the dog. There is no phone number, no address and no collar fitting in it, and it is priced as jewelry. If you need an ID tag for the dog, a pet supply shop sells a better one for less than this one costs.
Can you engrave a photo or my dog's paw print?
No. Text only, two lines of eight characters. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is traced. The portrait and paw-print sellers on this search do that work by hand from an image you send, which takes longer and costs more, and it is a different product from this one.
Can I engrave a date instead of a name?
Yes. The two lines take whatever you type, so a date written 04.12.19 fills one line exactly and a name sits on the other. Our own gold paw charm is photographed that way. Count the dots, because a full stop or a slash uses up a character like any letter.
Can I put two dogs on one charm?
Yes, if both names fit. You get two lines of eight characters and they do not have to be a name and a date, so two short names sit one above the other on the same charm. Longer pairs will not fit, and two charms on one chain is the other way to do it.
