More information on this doorbell

A German Shepherd Welcome Doorbell, Rung By Hand

A wall mounted German Shepherd welcome doorbell: the head and neck cast in polyresin with an antique bronze finish, a metal bell hanging on a short chain beneath the throat, and a cast WELCOME plaque on a second chain below the bell. Nothing to wire, nothing to charge, nothing to pair. A visitor takes hold of it, pulls, and it rings. It sits with the rest of the range in Pet Ornaments.

It Is A German Shepherd, Not A Husky

This piece was listed here as a husky and it is not one. The sculpt has large erect triangular ears with heavy fur inside them, a long tapering wedge muzzle, almond eyes and a full neck ruff sweeping down over the chest and shoulder. A husky has a shorter, blockier muzzle, a broader stop and a facial mask, and none of that is here.

Polyresin And Metal

The head is cast polyresin, which is what carries the ear and muzzle detail at this price. The bell and its chain are metal. The antique bronze is a finish over the resin rather than the base material. Listings for this shape often say cast iron and resin in the same sentence, and several claim a brass chime.

You Ring It, Not The Dog

Two very different products share this name. One is a potty training bell, a strap of jingle bells hung at nose height for the dog to nudge when it wants out. This is not that. This one mounts at adult height and is rung by the person arriving. It also does not replace a wired chime with a button outside, so most people hang it beside the doorbell they already have. The Bulldog Welcome Bell is built the same way.

Mounting It, Including On Brick

The backplate sits flat against the wall, with a mounting hole low on the neck. The whole piece weighs 321 g, roughly 11 ounces, so it is not a heavy fixing. We do not list hardware in the box, so plan on supplying your own screw. On brick, fix a wood backer board to the wall first and drive into the board rather than drilling the brick. It is rated weatherproof for indoor and outdoor use, though a sheltered porch keeps the finish right for longer. The flat standing alternative is the German Shepherd Line Sculpture.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a German Shepherd or a Husky?

A German Shepherd. Large erect triangular ears with fur inside them, a long tapering wedge muzzle, almond eyes and a heavy neck ruff over the chest. A husky has a blockier muzzle, a broader stop and a facial mask. This page was previously titled husky and the title is being corrected.

Is it cast iron or solid brass?

It is polyresin and metal with an antique bronze finish. The head is cast polyresin, which is what holds the ear and muzzle detail; the bell and chain are metal. Listings for this shape mix cast iron, resin and brass chimes freely, so it is worth asking outright.

Does it ring, and does it replace an electric doorbell?

It is a real bell, rung by hand. Nothing is wired, there is no battery and no motion sensor. Someone takes hold of it and pulls. Needing no power is the appeal, but it does not replace a wired chime with a button outside, so treat it as an addition rather than a swap.

Is this the bell a dog rings when it wants to go outside?

No. That is a potty training bell, a strap of jingle bells hung at nose height on the door for the dog to nudge. This mounts on the wall at adult height and is rung by the person arriving. It is entryway decor that works, not a training tool.

How do you hang it, and what if the wall is brick?

The backplate sits flat to the wall with a mounting hole low on the neck. At roughly 11 ounces it is not a heavy fixing. We do not list hardware in the box, so supply your own screw. On brick, mount a wood backer board first and drive into that rather than drilling the brick.

Does the WELCOME plaque come attached?

Yes. The plaque hangs on its own short chain below the bell rather than arriving as a separate sign to fit, and the lettering is cast into the plate, so the wording is fixed. It is part of the design rather than an add on, and it is visible in the product photograph.

Can it stay outside all year?

Our supplier rates it weatherproof for indoor and outdoor use. A porch or covered entry is the spot we would choose, out of direct sun and standing water, and a wipe with a soft dry cloth after wet weather keeps the antique bronze finish looking right.
