More information on this pendant
A yorkie necklace has to look like a yorkie
Most breed pendants at this size turn into a generic small dog. This one keeps what makes a Yorkshire Terrier recognisable - the silky parted coat, the perky ears, the button nose, and the expression of a lapdog with the attitude of something three times its size. It is paved in hand-set stones across a zinc alloy base. The whole breed range sits under dog lover gifts by breed.
Yorkie or Yorkshire Terrier
People shop this breed under both names and they tend to want slightly different things by each one - the nickname pulls the everyday piece, the full name pulls something more formal. This is the everyday one: a face you can wear to work. If you want the quieter piece from the same line, that is the paw print pendant.
Two finishes, two different pieces
Onyx and gold-tone gives you a dark coat with warm metal, which is closer to a real Yorkie's colouring and reads sharper against a light top. Champagne gold-tone is softer and goes quieter against skin. Same casting, genuinely different jewelry. The rest of our women's jewelry is built to the same tonal range.
What it is, and what it is not
Zinc alloy base, hand-set rhinestone pave, artificial gemstone detailing, plated finish. Not sterling silver, not solid gold, not diamond. A good number of the yorkie pendants ranking around this one are sterling at three times the price, and a good number are ten-dollar castings - we are neither, and we would rather say so. Same disclosure on all our pet jewelry.
Wearing it, and adding his name
On after perfume and lotion, off before showering, swimming and the gym, wiped dry and stored away from pieces that can knock the stones. Nothing on the pendant is engraved - for the name, the engraved keepsake charm clips on beside it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this necklace for me to wear, or is it for my dog?
It is for you. This is a human necklace - a chain you wear, with the breed's face as the pendant. It is not a dog collar, not a collar charm, and not anything the dog wears. Worth stating plainly, because rhinestone dog collars genuinely do show up in the same search results.
Is this sterling silver, or is it plated?
Plated. The base is zinc alloy, the stones are hand-set rhinestone and artificial gemstone, and the colour comes from a plated finish - Onyx & Gold or Champagne Gold. It is not sterling silver, not solid gold, and not diamond. We would rather you know that here than find it out later.
Will it turn my skin green?
It can, and it is not a reaction to your skin. Copper in an alloy meets sweat, lotion or perfume and leaves a green mark that washes straight off - harmless, but annoying. Put it on after lotion and perfume, take it off before you shower, swim or work out, and keep it dry. We are not going to promise it never happens, because we do not have plating-thickness data to back that promise.
Why is this $44.99 when the ones I keep finding are either $15 or $150?
Because this market is split in two with almost nothing in the middle. Under about fifty dollars you are buying plated alloy; over about a hundred you are buying sterling or gold. We sit at the top of the lower half - stone-by-stone hand-set pave and a heavier casting than the ten-dollar versions, labelled honestly as alloy instead of dressed up as silver.
How do I keep the pave from dulling?
Off before showering, swimming and the gym. On last, after perfume, lotion and hairspray - solvents work at the setting, not the stone. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth after wearing and store it dry, away from other pieces that can knock the stones.
How long is the chain?
About 20 inches, or roughly 50 cm. That sits just below the collarbone on most people, so the pendant lands where it can be seen over a crew neck rather than disappearing into a neckline. It is a fixed length with no extender, so if you wear your necklaces short or layered you will want to know that before ordering.
